Karen is of counsel to the firm and devotes her practice exclusively to employer counseling and litigation involving employment matters. She counsels employers on all aspects of the employment relationship, including compliance with state and federal employment laws; preparing and updating employee handbooks, policies and contracts; managing employees’ leaves of absence; and managing employee discipline, terminations and reductions in force. Karen also provides workplace training and conducts workplace investigations.
Prior to joining the firm, Karen served for three years as the Director of Personnel for the State of New Hampshire, where she was responsible for overseeing recruitment, compensation, evaluation and discipline for over 12,000 State employees. While Director, she managed employee investigations, heard employee appeals and provided counseling and training on a wide range of employment issues.
Karen served three years as a Senior Assistant Attorney General and as a consultant to the Colorado Attorney General's Office from 1999 to 2003. During that time, she litigated employment discrimination cases and provided public procurement advice and construction litigation services to the Colorado Departments of Corrections, Human Services, Transportation and the Judicial Department. Karen has also served as a Bureau Chief in the New Hampshire Attorney General's office.
